Counterfeit research library. This is focused on what the chip markings assert as opposed to what the seller asserts. For example, a buyer could be unhappy if they bought a new chip with ESD damage, but its more of a gray area vs a chip that has been remarked and has an incorrect die.
Counterfeit IC: a chip (ie marking) that misrepresents the product. This might include:
- Incorrect die
- Missing die
- Incorrect date
- Incorrect speed grade
These are also of interest but not the primary focus:
- Used vs new
- General EOS such as ESD damage
Sometimes a manufacturer will remark its own chips (ex: downgrading speed). However these are rare and less common in modern times. (TODO: find example)
