Glassware

Due to the nature of many of the chemicals involved, it is highly recommended that you only purchase high quality glassware to reduce the chance of an accident. Since most reactions are small, this hopefully shouldn't hurt the bank.

Some reputable glassware brands (a biased and incomplete list):

  • Pyrex
  • Kimax
  • Ace
  • Kimble/Kontes
  • Chemeglass

Stay away from these:

  • Bomex

Fluorinated plastics can be useful in a number of situations. They tend to be very clean, are heat resistant, chemically resistant, and have many other desirable properties. The most common type is PTFE (Teflon) although PFA gets used for wafer boats. See the Dupont website for a nice comparison chart.
