Verified I can unscrew the posts from the base

When I showed sales rep pictures, was told I was recommended the following parts:

  • 1P5AC-1000: Vacuum chuck body and tube - to convert PP5D to PP5GT
  • 1P5AC-0600: Drive/conditioning ring assembly for PP5 Polishing Jig - grooved
  • 1P5AC-1200: Vacuum chuckface for PP5GT - annular grooves for 83mm diameter substrate
  • 1GAG-055: Bluetooth gauge with support clamp (jig serial number required)

Follow up:

1P5AC-1000: doesn't my unit already have this? What is the difference between this one and mine?

  • this is a different part that allows for vacuum connection and interfaces with the new chuckface.

1P5AC-0600: my driving/conditioning ring face is smooth, the recommend one is grooved. Does this provide a process improvement?

  • Yes. The grooved chuck face allows for the polishing slurry to better access the sample. A smooth drive ring creates a damming effect and starves the sample of slurry.

1P5AC-1200: Will this mount to my existing chuck face body?

  • No.

The post screws do in fact come out. I think they are just standard M6 optical posts (TODO: confirm). I don't need vacuum capabilities, where I think a lot of the complexity comes from.

Options:

  • Buy all parts and get running. This is a significant sum, with the lowest cost part about what I paid for both jigs combined
  • Jury rig something (ie an SBT chuckface) onto the assembly. Replace with shorter posts
  • Design parts and get machine shop quotes. Most parts would probably be pretty simple to make since I'd be okay with wax mounting
